Bede World. Jarrow

The monastery at Jarrow was the home of St. Bede, the great English historian for much of his life. Parts of the church on this site date from his time, making it one of the oldest surviving churches in Britain, though the rest of the monastery is a 12th and 13th century re construction. As part of a major historical project a saxon village has been constructed near the monastery to show the lives of peopla at that time.
